Thought of the week:
How do you interpret Scripture? When most of us sit down to read the Bible we try to analyze it instead of allowing it to analyze us. Reading the Bible is about letting the Bible read us. We shouldn’t sit down to read it as though we’re the ones that give it meaning, for the exact opposite is true. Bible reading isn’t so much about us raising questions for God, but God raising questions of us; challenging our thoughts and actions. Instead of reading the Scriptures with the assumption that we’re the active party, try reading it as though God is the active party and be open allowing Him to speak. It’s God who addresses us through His word and that word comes to life when we give ourselves over to its message for the real living of life. So the next time you sit down with your Bible sit down as with a close friend over a cup of coffee and open your mind and heart. Listen to what he’s saying and then act on it in faith.
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12 ESV)
