…and he said to him, “Follow me.” Matt. 9:9
As Christians we should have a hunger and thirst for the things of God. Many feel that that inner hunger will be satisfied by listening to sermons or podcasts from their favourite preacher, reading books, or by spending more time studying their Bible.
While we all want to be fed, and it’s critical for us to study the Bible, I’m convinced that the hunger we experience will never be satisfied by absorbing more information about Jesus. It’s through practicing what we study from the Bible in the midst of our daily lives that transformation happens and we become a blessing to others. Real satisfaction for our hunger is found by Jesus living out his life and words through us.
Jesus didn’t say, “Come and study about me.” He said, “Believe in me,” and “Follow me.” For me, it’s much easier to believe than it is to follow. Believing is the first step to following, but believing doesn’t mean the lesson is complete. It has just begun.
