I read a news article the other day that reported there are about 100 million Christians being persecuted around the world.
Christians face hostility and restriction in 111 countries and there are more than 65 countries where Christians face outright persecution. North Korea was at the top of the list for being the country with the worst record for persecuting believers, where up to 70,000 North Koreans have been sent to labor camps for their faith.
In many Islamic countries Christians risk their lives just to gather in public worship.
When so many would give so much to worship together with other believers, it saddens me to think that so many Westerners don’t place a greater value on the freedom we have to gather for worship. In the busyness of life it’s easy to make worship a low priority.
Psalm 100 gives us clear instruction for an attitude of worship
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness…
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. Ps 100:1,2 & 4.
Worship is our imperfect way of acknowledging God for who He is, and all that He has done for us.
Worship is intended to give God His due. God made us; we belong to Him. The Lord is good; His love and faithfulness endure forever.
Let’s enjoy our freedom to worship and pray for those who either don’t have that freedom, or don’t see worship as a priority in their life.
