Bearing One Another’s Burdens
Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2 ESV)
It seems that our society idolizes independence and self-sufficiency. From an early age we’re taught to do things for ourselves and not to depend on others. But Jesus has a different idea about how we should relate with one another. Carrying each others burdens opens us up to the idea that none of us are better than each other and we are in the journey together. We were made for relationship and we need each other. There is no shame in admitting that we need help and it may be a pride issue when we don’t allow others to share our load.
Perhaps there are people who you know that are carrying a burden too heavy for them to bear alone, but you aren’t even aware of it. The Law of Love begins with caring enough about others to ask about the burden they carry. Jesus didn’t allow us to carry the burden alone and it’s his love that we share when we help others. Whether it’s just lending a listening ear, or a helping hand, let’s love one another by bear one another’s burdens.
