What is Faith?
We read in Hebrews 11:6 that, “without faith it is impossible to please God.” But what is the definition of faith? We talk about “growing in our faith” but what is it that we are asking for?
There is no clear definition of faith given in the Bible beyond a brief description given in Heb. 11:1. Even there, faith is defined as to what it is in operation, not in essence. What we do see clearly displayed by men and women throughout Scripture is faith in action. As people encountered a compassionate and gracious God, they were stirred to respond.
Faith is a gift from God (Eph. 2:8) that God intends for us to exercise. Thomas a’ Kempis once said, “I had rather exercise faith than know the definition of it.” Perhaps we would do better to think of faith as it is experienced in action rather than just another philosophical thought. Faith needs to be exercised if it is to grow.
Let’s Kick Off Fall Right!
It’s hard to believe that the Summer months have passed already and we’re heading headlong into September already! I hope you’re getting settled back into the routine that the Fall months usually bring.
After a busy Summer that has had many people traveling, working out of town or spending the weekends camping or at the lake, we’re coming back together as a church this Sunday for a celebration of our church family and what God has been doing in our lives. I’m hoping that many will be willing to share a testimony of how God has been at work in your life over the summer.
Worship this week will have more of a gospel/bluegrass theme, then after our worship service there’re be a BBQ & fellowship time. Why not invite a friend to join you for a great day as we kick off the Fall season!
