Preparation of the Heart
Today is the beginning of Lent. This is a 40-day period (excluding Sundays) observed by many Christians as a time of spiritual preparation for Easter Sunday. During Lent many followers of Christ prepare their hearts by turning their minds away from the physical to the spiritual through self-denial. One way of self-denial is to give something up as a symbolic gesture of suffering in remembrance of how Jesus suffered on the Cross for us.
Another way to practice self-denial, that I’ve adopted, is to find ways to serve others. This is something I should be doing not just during Lent, but every day. But I’ve not been as intentional or proactive as I want to or should be, as a follower of Jesus. I’m hoping and praying that as I find a way to serve someone else every day, it will become a habit, a lifestyle, and a witness that will last not just for 40 days, but for a lifetime. How will you prepare your heart?
“… even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”(Matthew 20:28, ESV)

It’s great to be back after a week of vacation. Although we didn’t go very far Rita & myself were able to spend a few days in Golden with family and found some time to relax. Thanks to Denis Harvey for speaking last Sunday and for all those who participated in the Manor service in my absence.
